Booking & Availability
How do we check if you're available for our wedding date?
The best way is through the contact form or by email. We respond within 24 hours (usually same day!) with availability and next steps.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book 9-12 months in advance, especially for popular wedding months (May-October). However, we often have availability for dates 3-6 months out, so don't hesitate to reach out even if your wedding is soon!
Do you only shoot one wedding per day?
Absolutely! We book only one wedding per day to ensure you receive complete focus, attention, and energy. Your day deserves nothing less.
What's the booking process?
After we connect and discuss your wedding, we'll create a custom proposal. Once you're ready to move forward, a signed contract and 30% retainer secures your date. The remaining balance is typically split into installments leading up to your wedding.
What's your cancellation, reschedule, and retainer policy?
The 30% retainer that secures your date is non-refundable, since booking your wedding means we turn away every other couple for that day. If you need to reschedule, we'll do our best to move your booking to a new available date at no penalty, and the retainer carries over. Any payments beyond the retainer are refundable if you cancel before the balance is due. Full details are spelled out in your contract before you sign.
Packages & Pricing
How much do you charge for wedding photography?
Wedding collections start at $1,900 with The Short Story. The Sweet Spot is $2,900 and is the most common fit for full wedding days because it includes 8 hours, a second photographer, a full engagement session, live guest slideshow, and ceremony broadcast. The Whole Story is $3,900 for the complete experience with album, replay, permanent gallery, and priority editing.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! Flexible payment plans are available to make things more manageable. After the initial retainer, we can set up installments that work with your budget.
What's included in the packages?
Every collection includes Mauricio as lead photographer, timeline planning, professional editing, high-resolution digital images, an online gallery, print release, and sneak peeks. Higher collections add a second photographer, full engagement session, Picsui live guest features, ceremony broadcast, albums, permanent gallery access, and priority editing.
Can we customize a package?
Absolutely! Several add-ons are available including extra coverage hours, additional photographers, engagement sessions, albums, and more. We're happy to create a custom package that fits your specific needs.

Day-Of Logistics
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes! We regularly photograph weddings throughout New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Travel fees may apply for locations beyond 50 miles from Sparta, NJ. We've also traveled for destination weddings — just ask!
Do you have backup equipment?
Absolutely. Backup cameras, lenses, lighting, and memory cards come to every wedding. Your memories are too important to risk!
Are you insured, and can you provide a certificate of insurance (COI) for our venue?
Yes. We carry professional liability insurance and can provide your venue with a certificate of insurance (COI), which many venues require before the wedding day. Just let us know your venue's requirements and we'll take care of it. You can read more on our policy and insurance page. View our policy and insurance details
What happens if it rains or the weather turns bad on our wedding day?
Rain is never a reason to worry. We shoot beautifully in any weather and always plan a backup with you ahead of time — covered spots, indoor locations at your venue, and creative use of umbrellas and window light. Some of the most memorable, romantic portraits happen on rainy or overcast days. During timeline planning we identify indoor and sheltered options so there's always a plan B ready to go.
What happens if the photographer gets sick or has an emergency?
We have a network of trusted professional photographers who can step in if an emergency occurs. This has never happened in 14 years of shooting weddings, but there is always a backup plan.
Can we meet before the wedding?
Highly encouraged! We can meet for coffee, do a video call, or connect at your engagement session. Getting to know you beforehand helps us capture your authentic personalities.
Will you help with timeline planning?
Yes! We'll review your timeline and provide recommendations based on experience with 750+ weddings. We'll suggest the best times for portraits, family photos, and key moments.
Style & Approach
How would you describe your photography style?
The Hariel Xavier style is elegant, timeless, and authentic. The focus is on capturing genuine emotions and candid moments while creating beautiful, romantic portraits. Think classic with a modern touch.
What is the difference between documentary, guided, and editorial wedding photography?
Documentary photography captures candid, unposed moments as they unfold naturally. Guided authenticity provides gentle direction to help you look your best while keeping the connection natural. Editorial photography creates dramatic, magazine-worthy compositions with more intentional direction. We offer all three styles and help couples choose what fits their personality.
Are you comfortable directing us for photos?
Absolutely! We're great at making couples feel comfortable and natural — gentle guidance and prompts rather than stiff, awkward poses. Most couples say they forgot the photographer was even there!
Do you do engagement sessions?
Yes! The Short Story includes a 30-minute Sparta-area engagement mini-session. The Sweet Spot includes a full Sussex County engagement session, and The Whole Story includes a full session anywhere in NJ, NY, or PA.
Can we create a shot list?
Absolutely! Must-have shots are always welcome, especially for family formals. We'll also capture all the important moments you expect, plus the unexpected ones you didn't see coming.

Planning & Working Together
What's included in wedding timeline planning?
Before your wedding day, we build a detailed timeline together — when to start getting ready, when to do your first look, how long family photos take, when the ceremony starts, and when key reception moments happen. We coordinate with your DJ, venue coordinator, and other vendors so everything flows smoothly. We've built timelines for 750+ weddings.
What makes you different from other NJ photographers?
Three things: First, we've guided 750+ couples through their wedding day — that experience means we know exactly when and where the moments happen. Second, we offer live ceremony streaming and guest photo sharing built into our packages, which most photographers don't. Third, our approach is calm and unobtrusive — you'll forget we're there, but your photos won't.
