About Crystal Springs

A venue we know by heart

Crystal Springs isn't really one venue — it's six. Grand Cascades Lodge, Minerals Hotel, Ballyowen Golf Club, Crystal Springs Country Club, Black Bear Golf Club, and Wild Turkey Golf Club all sit on one sprawling Sussex County property. Each has its own character, its own ceremony sites, and its own feel.

We've photographed weddings at multiple Crystal Springs properties and the thing that surprises most couples is how different the experience is from one side of the resort to the other. Grand Cascades has the grand ballroom and the Biosphere Pool Club feel. Ballyowen is rolling Irish-style links golf with dramatic mountain backdrops. Minerals is more intimate and lakeside.

Because it's a destination resort with on-site lodging, Crystal Springs weddings tend to become weekends. That changes how we shoot them — we plan for welcome-night portraits Friday, ceremony and reception Saturday, and sometimes a brunch gallery Sunday. The photography covers more story, and the guests get a longer celebration.

From a Couple We Shot Here

Just writing this review brings tears to my eyes. From bridal prep to the last dance, every photo tells a story. We will treasure these memories forever.

Where We Shoot

The best photo spots

After shooting here, these are the corners we return to for the quiet portraits and the moments that actually matter.

The Biosphere Pool Club (Grand Cascades)

Glass walls, tropical plants, and rock formations make for one of the most unusual cocktail-hour photo environments in NJ. Great for ring shots and quiet couple moments.

The Ballyowen 18th hole

Irish-style links, rolling hills, and mountain backdrops. We bring couples up here for golden hour portraits. It feels nothing like New Jersey — that's the point.

The stone archway at Grand Cascades

The archway right outside the ballroom is a reliable bad-weather backup and a beautiful portrait spot even on good days.

The Minerals lakeside

Smaller, more intimate. Lake reflections at golden hour are a go-to for quieter, softer portraiture.

The Crystal Tavern terrace

Wrought iron railings, stone walls, and mountain views. Great for engagement portraits and welcome-night rehearsal dinner shots.

The pine-lined drive up to the resort

A cinematic opening shot for every wedding day. We often start the gallery here with a car-arrival image.

A Sample Day

An ideal timeline here

Your day is yours — but this is what tends to work beautifully at Crystal Springs.

12:30 PM

Getting ready across two suites

With multi-property weddings, each side often preps in their own wing. We stagger two getting-ready sessions.

2:30 PM

First look on the grounds

We pick a spot based on which Crystal Springs venue you chose — Ballyowen golf for drama, Grand Cascades terrace for elegance.

4:00 PM

Ceremony

Crystal Springs does indoor + outdoor well. We plan for both and pivot same-day based on weather.

5:00 PM

Cocktails (often Biosphere or terrace)

Big guest counts here, so we bring a second shooter to cover both the candid side and the formal portraits simultaneously.

6:00 PM

Mountain golden hour

The sun drops behind the Kittatinny ridge around 6:15 in summer. We pull you away for 15 minutes of incredible light.

6:30 PM

Reception

Sit-down dinner, toasts, dancing. Grand Cascades ballroom has some of the best dance-floor light at any NJ venue.

A Few Questions

Before you reach out

Which Crystal Springs property is best for our style?+

Depends on your guest count and vibe. 250+ guests + ballroom reception → Grand Cascades Lodge. Golf-course ceremony with mountain views → Ballyowen. Intimate lakeside → Minerals. We're happy to walk you through it on a call based on what you've already booked.

Have you photographed Crystal Springs weddings before?+

Yes. We've shot weddings at multiple Crystal Springs properties and know how to navigate the distance between the getting-ready suites, ceremony, and reception without losing light or momentum.

Does the resort's size affect photography timeline?+

Yes, meaningfully. Crystal Springs weddings often have multiple venues in play on a single day — ceremony at one property, reception at another. We build 15-minute driving buffers into the timeline so you're not rushed.

Do we need a second photographer at Crystal Springs?+

For weddings over 150 guests or anything involving multiple Crystal Springs properties, yes — we recommend it. The Full Story collection ($2,995 sale price) includes a second photographer. For smaller weddings at a single Crystal Springs venue, Signature ($2,495 sale) is plenty.

Is Crystal Springs a good winter venue?+

Incredible winter venue. The resort handles snow beautifully and the indoor spaces (Biosphere, Ballrooms, Crystal Tavern) mean the photos still look elegant regardless of weather. Winter Crystal Springs weddings are dramatically underrated.
