About The Palace

A venue we know by heart

The Palace at Somerset Park is unapologetic about what it is: one of NJ's largest luxury wedding venues, designed to handle 400+ guest weddings with full production value. If your family is big, your guest list is international, and you want a ballroom that actually feels like a palace — this is where you book.

Judy and Mike got married here, and the thing that stood out to us photographically was how much built-in production the venue handles. The lighting is designed, the marble is lit, the gardens are groomed, the staircase has a dedicated photo spot. It's not subtle — and that's exactly the point.

For photography, The Palace rewards couples who plan. The scale means timeline buffers matter more here than at smaller venues. We build 10-minute cushions between getting-ready suites, the ceremony room, and the reception ballroom because the venue is genuinely big. But once you work with the scale, the coverage is spectacular.

From a Couple We Shot Here

Finding Hariel Xavier Photography was a blessing. He was incredibly patient with our large bridal party and the timeline he created beforehand ensured we had plenty of time for photos without feeling rushed.

Where We Shoot

The best photo spots

After shooting here, these are the corners we return to for the quiet portraits and the moments that actually matter.

The grand marble staircase

The most-requested Palace photo. We shoot from below, looking up, with the bridal party descending. Works best in the late afternoon when the windows above the stairs are glowing.

The formal gardens

Manicured hedges, fountains, and a long central walkway. Feels like a European estate. Best for couple portraits during cocktail hour.

The gazebo

The outdoor ceremony site. We shoot from three angles here — front (classic), side (guest reactions), and back (the aisle walk).

The chandelier ballroom

The Palace's signature ballroom. Gold detailing, massive chandeliers, and a dance floor with actual lighting design. Reception photography here requires zero flash if we don't want it.

The fountain courtyard

Secondary outdoor space for bridal party portraits. Especially good when the main gardens are crowded with guests during cocktail hour.

The mirrored lobby

Golden hour light bounces around the lobby mirrors. Quick stop for a few dramatic bridal party shots before guests arrive.

A Sample Day

An ideal timeline here

Your day is yours — but this is what tends to work beautifully at The Palace.

1:00 PM

Getting ready in the bridal + groom suites

The Palace has two large suites. We split time between them — dress details and candid prep in one, groom and groomsmen portraits in the other.

3:30 PM

First look at the fountain courtyard

We pick the courtyard over the main gardens for the first look because it's quieter and the fountain backdrop gives you depth in the photos.

4:30 PM

Ceremony

Palace ceremonies run 30–45 minutes. We cover from 2 angles minimum with our second photographer on large weddings.

5:30 PM

Family formals on the marble staircase

The most efficient family-formal location at The Palace — stairs let us stage 20+ people without the photo feeling chaotic.

6:00 PM

Golden hour in the gardens

We pull you away from cocktails for 15 minutes. The gardens at 6pm are some of the best light The Palace offers.

6:30 PM

Reception in the grand ballroom

Toasts, dinner, first dance, open dance floor. The ballroom lighting does most of the work for us here.

A Few Questions

Before you reach out

Have you shot at The Palace at Somerset Park before?+

Yes. Judy & Mike's 2022 wedding was at The Palace and is in our portfolio. We know the staircase timing, the ballroom lighting, and how to move a large wedding party through the venue without losing light.

Do we need a second photographer at The Palace?+

For weddings over 150 guests, yes — we strongly recommend it. The Palace's size means simultaneous moments happening in different rooms. Full Story ($2,995 sale price) includes a second shooter and is the most common pick for Palace weddings.

How much time do we need for photos at The Palace?+

Because the venue is large and production-heavy, we recommend at least 8 hours of coverage. Signature ($2,495 sale) at 8 hours covers a standard Palace wedding. Heirloom ($3,795 sale) at 10 hours is common for large multicultural or bicoastal family weddings.

Does the Spring Sale apply to Palace weddings?+

Yes. Every 2026 Palace date qualifies if contracted by April 30, including Saturday dates. Signature drops from $3,495 to $2,495, Full Story to $2,995, Heirloom to $3,795.

Can we do an outdoor ceremony with indoor rain plan?+

Yes, and The Palace handles it well. The gazebo is the outdoor ceremony site; the ballroom or a secondary indoor space is the rain plan. We shoot both as if either could be the final plan — so you don't lose coverage if weather changes the morning of.
