Bear Brook Valley
A rustic-chic Sussex County property where barn ceremonies meet meadow golden hours.
About Bear Brook
A venue we know by heart
Bear Brook Valley is one of those Sussex County venues that looks deceptively simple in photos and then genuinely blows you away in person. The property sits on 150+ acres of rolling meadows, mature trees, and a restored timber-frame barn — and every corner of it was built with photography in mind.
We've shot here, and what we love about it is how the landscape moves you through the day naturally. Getting ready in the farmhouse, a first look tucked into the tree line, ceremony in the open meadow, cocktails on the stone patio, reception in the barn with those gorgeous beams overhead. Nothing feels forced because the venue's layout does the work for you.
Bianca and Jeffrey got married here. Their ceremony started with a surprise rainstorm, and the photos from that afternoon are some of our favorite work we've ever done. That's Bear Brook in a sentence — the weather does what it wants, and the venue still delivers.
From a Couple We Shot Here
“Our ceremony was outdoors and when it started to rain, Mauricio didn't miss a beat — some of our most magical photos came from that rain!”

Where We Shoot
The best photo spots
After shooting here, these are the corners we return to for the quiet portraits and the moments that actually matter.
The timber-frame barn interior
Hand-hewn beams, string lights, and a long center aisle. Works for both ceremony and reception. Warm evening light through the doors is unreal.
The open meadow (ceremony site)
Framed by mountains and tree line. We always plan ceremonies here for late afternoon so the sun is behind you, not in your guests' eyes.
The stone patio + fire pit
Perfect for cocktail-hour candids. The low stone wall is also a surprisingly good sunset portrait spot once the crowd moves inside.
The tree line at the far end of the meadow
Our go-to for first looks and quiet bride/groom portraits. Shade through the day, soft glow at golden hour.
The farmhouse (getting ready suites)
North-facing windows make for some of the best getting-ready light in Sussex County. We shoot tight details here early, before the room fills up.
The gravel driveway + stone entry
Feels like a movie when the car pulls up at night. We love it for late-ceremony exits and reception portraits with a little mystery.
A Sample Day
An ideal timeline here
Your day is yours — but this is what tends to work beautifully at Bear Brook.
1:30 PM
Getting ready in the farmhouse
Natural light is best early. Dress details, bridesmaids, and quiet moments with family.
3:00 PM
First look at the tree line
Private, shaded, and away from guest arrival traffic. Great for couple portraits before everyone shows up.
4:30 PM
Ceremony in the meadow
Late afternoon light, mountains behind you. Typical ceremony runs 25–35 min.
5:15 PM
Family + wedding party portraits
We knock these out fast — 20 minutes family, 15 minutes party — so you can get to cocktail hour.
6:00 PM
Golden hour couple portraits
Our favorite 20 minutes of the day. We pull you away briefly for meadow + tree line portraits while guests are at cocktails.
6:30 PM
Reception in the barn
String lights, dinner, toasts, first dance. We shoot through last dance or sparkler exit depending on your package.
A Few Questions
Before you reach out
Have you photographed weddings at Bear Brook Valley before?+
Yes. We've shot weddings on the property and know the rhythms of the space — where the light is at 4pm vs 6pm, which corners work for first looks, how to move a group through portraits without losing the meadow light.
What happens if it rains on our Bear Brook wedding?+
Bear Brook's barn is a full rain plan in itself — the ceremony can move indoors beautifully. We've shot a Bear Brook wedding that started in a sudden rainstorm and those photos are some of the most romantic work we've ever delivered. Rain isn't a problem here; it's just a different kind of beautiful.
Is Bear Brook too far from NYC for guests?+
It's about 75 minutes from Manhattan. Far enough to feel like a real escape, close enough that out-of-town guests can drive up the day-of. On-site lodging helps for the wedding party and close family.
What package do most Bear Brook couples book?+
Most Bear Brook weddings benefit from 8+ hours of coverage because the property has so much ground to cover. Signature ($2,495 sale price, normally $3,495) is the sweet spot — 8 hours, engagement session included, timeline planning. Full Story ($2,995 sale) adds a second photographer if you want more angles across the big property.
Do you travel to Fredon for smaller weddings too?+
Absolutely. We shoot intimate Bear Brook celebrations with the Intimate collection ($995 sale) or Essential ($1,795 sale) all the time. The venue works just as well for 40 guests as it does for 200.
